On Friday 4 September, we have been delighted to welcome Jean Yang, Professor of Statistics and Bioinformatics at the University of Sydney and Director of the Sydney Precision Data Science Centre.
Recognized for her major contributions to the fields of single-cell and spatial omics, she delivered a seminar entitled “Making Sense of Spatial Omics Data: Designing, Reconstructing and Interpreting Tissue Maps.” During her presentation, she showcased innovative statistical and computational approaches for designing, reconstructing, and interpreting tissue maps from incomplete spatial data, highlighting the central role of data science in unlocking the full potential of spatial omics technologies.

The BDSC seminar series resumed this season with a presentation by Joey Arthur, a computational biologist and expert in spatial transcriptomics.
Drawing on more than eight years of experience at 10x Genomics, he contributed to the development of software tools and the analysis of high-throughput omics data. On this occasion, he presented a novel benchmarking approach for evaluating the quality of transcript-to-cell assignment methods, a key step in the analysis of spatial transcriptomics data.The seminar took place on Thursday, September 3, in the SE-C 00/080 auditorium at Biopôle.

For the opening session of our BDSC Seminar Series, we were delighted to welcome Dr. Franck Picard from the Laboratoire de Biologie et Modélisation de la Cellule at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon.
In his presentation, Dr. Picard introduced his latest work on Kernel‑based perturbation testing for single‑cell data, offering valuable insights into advanced statistical approaches for dissecting complex cellular heterogeneity.
